What is an architectural smart dimmer?
Light dimming basics
All light dimmers, ranging from a simple residential wall switch to an advanced architectural dimmer, control the brightness of the light source by reducing the power the fixture receives. The dimmer cuts part of the AC voltage allowing a limited and variable amount of the waveform to reach the lamp.
Architectural dimming
Advanced dimming systems are designed to precisely control light levels, color control and energy consumption based on programmable settings and dynamic input. Smart controls are also now providing data that can be used for continual optimization of the lighting system. This level of control delivers high-end aesthetics for lighting designers.
Professional lighting control integration is an essential component of good lighting design. The proper application of smart dimmers and smart controls can alter the appearance of a defined space throughout the day by adjusting to natural light levels. Lighting controls can also change the mood or functionality of a room based on the requirements of the occupants or the event.
Boca Lighting and Controls Smart Dimmers
The Boca SMART Dimmer 0-10V provides an interface with a dimming protocol of 0-10 volts. The 10 Volt Dimmer enables the luminaires and controls to dim evenly with precise configuration with no flickering. The dimmer uses Micro-Step technology to deliver a high-resolution dimming curve programmed to match human eye light intensity response and contrast sensitivity.
The patented technology for autosensing dimming compares pulses to and from the load to deliver the ideal luminance. The dimmer may respond to an intensity target by setting a pulse-width modulation duty cycle based on an intensity-translation curve. The translation curve may be based on a mapping between luminance and human visual perception of brightness.
